My top source informs me that it was Sen. John Thune's office who asked the Lincoln High School drumline and chorus to perform at the Teabaggers Anti-Recovery Protest at Covell Lake in Sioux Falls.
My source says Thune's office was asked several times about the event and they assured it was a "non-political" event. LHS was asked because they are the "Patriots."
My source also says that the Sioux Falls School District Superintendent Pam Homan and Principal Val Fox are outraged and writing a letter to Sen. Thune about the kids and the district getting used by this event.
And to think this was all at taxpayer expense, ironically enough.

What ever made you think teabagging was partisan? Was it this: www.teaparty.gop.com ? Or the fact that Sen David Vitter volunteered to be one the spokesmen?
How does a high school principal, teachers or advisers miss this - other than willful blindness?
What's next? Performing for the ACLU would be less partisan.

Once again, and not denying that the event was political (because it was), but just reminding you of the public-school classrooms across the county that were Obama campaign cheerleaders, and teachers who ridiculed kids in class who said their parents were for McCain.
I'm just sayin.'
Besides, why isn't the "outrage" directed at the folks who approved it?

Either Homan and Fox are lying through their teeth or they are quite possibly the DUMBEST educators on record. Come ON you two. Are we supposed to believe the vacuum you live in is that airtight?
Who can blame the Thune office for allegedly lying? What happens when a politican opens his/her mouth?
But now that the genie is out of the bottle, I hope that the next time the Peace and Justice Center holds a vigil, Lincoln will once again provide accompaniment. Because anti-war protestors are Patriots too.
Oh and "Must Be Kidding", your logic makes your screen name most appropriate.

THC, last I checked, public school classrooms/buildings were taxpayer-supported. That's my point. It is perfectly logical.
We might actually be more in agreement than you think. I don't think it was appropriate for a school band on school time to play at a political event, and I don't think classrooms should have been turned into bastions of Obama worshipping.
And you?

MBK:
I would also object to public school kids being forced to participate in any campaign event, even for my Man Crush, Obama.

The "blame the victims" mentality surrounding this matter is appalling. It's pretty apparent (to anyone willing to see) that the organizers purposely and purposefully misrepresented the event as "nonpartisan"--and now the argument is that those
who were duped should have known better?? Yes, it's obvious in hindsight that the administrators were naive to trust the word of right-wing extremists--presumably they'll be less trusting next time--but it's equally obvious that the organizers took advantage of the school and the school district. And the kids.
Let's keep our eye on the ball here, and put the responsibility where it belongs: on the organizers who, in keeping with their standard m.o., employed half-truths and outright fabrications to get what they wanted.
